This is intended for 2D and 3D artists who are curious about my Sculpketch workflow, as well as those who want to observe my SpeedSculpting process in ZBrush — whether I'm working on a Windows system at home or sculpting on an iPad while traveling or working with limited time. You'll be able to see both approaches in action.

Before starting any personal project, I usually define its purpose. I ask myself whether it's meant to become a production-ready character, a miniature statue, or simply a piece for practice and learning — and how much time I can realistically dedicate to it. The Sculpketch Series falls into the "Practice, Learning, and Skill Development" category for me. The goal is to sculpt and polypaint a character within roughly a day or two and produce a presentable 3D illustration. A "day" can mean 8–10 hours in one stretch or split across two days with about 5 hours each.

This process allows me to regularly challenge my skills and knowledge whenever I find time outside of professional work. I treat it like a warm-up or pre-workout exercise before heavy lifting — it keeps me motivated and sharp. This approach played a significant role during my time in the VFX industry, where I could quickly create multiple iterations of concept sculpts with colors, making it easy for supervisors to visualize the concept better, much like thumbnail sketches, but in 3D. I hope this process helps you in a similar way, as it has contributed greatly to my growth as a digital sculptor over the years.

Many personal sculpting projects often get started, but most of them get shelved. You all know what I mean. Sculpketch helps build the confidence to complete practice pieces that you can also share on online art platforms. Because of the time limitations of speed sculpting, some areas may remain rough or unfinished, but the sculpt can still be presented effectively as a 3D illustration from a specific angle — serving as a form of 3D concept art.

A Sculpketch doesn't always have to be a superhero character. It can be any subject you want to study — from anatomy and portraits to full-figure gestures and beyond. Once you've completed several Sculpketches, you can select one you really like and assign it a new purpose, investing weeks or even months to develop it into a fully production-ready model for animation and rendering — using your original Sculpketch (created in a day or two) as a 3D reference.
