In this Blender 5 course, we will go from ZERO to a fully ready 3D game HERO character. We will learn how to model and sculpt in Blender 5, but also how to retopologize and UV unwrap, and how to bake maps, rig, pose, and render. We will start slow, explaining everything multiple times throughout the course, so we can learn by practice and repetition.
My name is Niko, and I am a 3D artist and tutor with over 30,000 students in my courses for Blender, Anatomy, ZBrush, and 3D Character creation. I have two YouTube channels — Speedchar and Speedchar Live — where you can find many videos about character sculpting, anatomy, and Blender.
In the beginning, we will get familiar with Blender 5 navigation and tools and make some simple shapes like a snowman, a chess pawn, and a chess queen to hone our newly found skills. Then we will jump into sculpting, where we will sculpt a simple head to explain all the needed brushes and tools. After that, we will start making the high poly of our hero rabbit character. It will take some time, since I will be explaining everything again and again because repetition is the mother of knowledge. Then we will do retopology to create the low poly, just as professional character artists do. After that, we will go through UV unwrapping so we can have a texture, and then learn how to bake maps — both in Blender and in Substance Painter.
At the end, we will rig our character and pose it for a final beauty render and a turntable animation.
This course is for those who want to learn Blender and for those who want to make 3D characters but are still beginners.
By the end of this course — especially if you practice everything — you will have knowledge of the entire 3D character creation pipeline: high poly, low poly, UVs, baking, and even some texturing.
I explain mostly Blender in this course, but also cover some basics in Substance Painter for those who choose to use it.
